A War Story, by artist Lyn Westfall, is a testimonial exhibition on the theme of war and conflict, loss and remembrance. Westfall, as an infant, lost her father, Flight Sergeant Wilfred W. Lavers, while flying a Wellington Bomber over Germany on the eve of September 10,1942. The plane was never found. His death is believed to be the morning of the 11th. The similarity to 9/11 compelled Westfall to link these two events into one painting, Dies Irae (Day of Anger). Many years later, while reading a long-forgotten childhood book, “L'Histoire de Babar” by Jean de Brunboff, Westfall felt compelled to begin intensive research into her father's life and war experience. Recent paintings reflect this book along with images of WWII and Wellington Bombers. Thus childhood memories, deeply personal testimonies of war and conflict, help expand the viewers understanding of personal and national horrific events.
